Obituary

Lawrence Meade, of Jackson, NJ, died on March 18th, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born on January 7, 1941, to Sylvia and Joseph Meade. He was a long-time resident of Bergenfield, NJ.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his sons Paul (Laura) and Steve (Leesa), grandchildren Sawyer, Haley, Jordan, and Sydney, and his partner Sena Warner. He was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 44 years.

As an excellent clarinet and saxophone player, he graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Music Education and obtained his Masters degree in Education Administration from Montclair State University.

He was a popular and beloved music teacher who impacted the lives of his students during his career. As a teacher for 32 years, including 28 years as Band Director at Cresskill High School, he led the marching band, conducted the concert, jazz, and stage bands, served as the chair of the Fine and Industrial Arts Department, and represented teachers as the head of the Cresskill teacher’s union. He also served on the board of the North Jersey Band Festival Association.

Larry enjoyed travel, jazz music, attending concerts and shows, playing cards with friends, and the New York Yankees. He made friends everywhere he went.

A Chapel Service will take place on Tuesday, March 21st at 1:15 pm the Sanctuary of Abraham & Sarah at the Cedar Park & Beth El Cemeteries at 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652.

Those who will be attending should park their vehicles to the left of the cemetery’s office and meet inside the Rotunda which is between the cemetery’s office and the Chapel of the Sanctuary.
