Edward “Eddie” H. Harris, 90, of Montclair, New Jersey, passed away on November 1, 2023 at the Lyons VA Medical Center Hospice care in Bernard Township, New Jersey. Edward was born on October 2, 1933 in Montclair, N.J.

Eddie was a Montclair High School graduate class on 1953. In 1955, he received an Associate’s Degree from the Writing School of Arts & Drafting in New Haven Connecticut. Eddie served in the US Army for two years in Germany as a Medic, when was in the Army National Guard for over 20 years at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Eddie background as a medic resulted in him being employed and trained at both Lyons and Essex County Hospital as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. After twenty years he
Decided to retire and relocate to California where he taught Adult Education for the prison system. Several years later, he returned to New Jersey and work in Mental Health and Job Training Programs for young people. Metal Health became a second career for Eddie at UMDNJ and after being in employed in this field for more than a decade he again became a retiree. Eddie was very busy in the community running basketball games and other youth programs for the City of East Orange. Eddie work with the youth program and during the summer, he worked as teacher in Essex County College’s summer school youth programs. Due to Eddies passion with working with youth the Delaney Heritage Society, awarded him the “International Year of the Youth Award” recognized him. For over 25 years, Eddie was an active Member with the Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251 Montclair. Eddie served as the past Vice Commander and the Past Historian. Eddie loved working on committees and sharing his knowledge of Black History. The black history program that was sponsored by the post 251 under Eddies supervision.

Edward (Eddie) was known for his kind and helpful nature, and his extensive knowledge and love for facts. Eddie enjoyed a good party, Social events, traveling and going to the casinos with any bus ride he could find. Eddie was always eager to share his wisdom with others, and he would talk to everyone who would take the time and listen to his amazing stories.

Eddie was preceded in Death by: Father Frank Harris, Mother Gertrude T. Gilbert, Daughter Noel Harris. Leaves to cherish his memories his Family and love ones: Samuelyn Goseer (GA), Gregory Gates (Lynette) (GA), Cheryl Hawkins (GA), Samluelyn Owens (GA), Jessica Gates (GA), God Son Merill King (Priscilla) (FL), Leslie Fields-Jarvis (Mario), Sherie Fileds-Jackson (Larry), Alva Muhammad, Hava Athill (Joseph), Aaron Athill (Tiffany), Adrienne Hall. In addition, a host of friends.

His family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his kindness, knowledge and helpfulness will dearly miss Eddie Harris.
